Cheese Straws



Ingredients:

1 cup all-purpose buttermilk biscuit mix
1 cup grated American cheese
2 tablespoons shortening
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (hot)
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon water

Directions:

Blend biscuit mix, grated cheese, shortening, salt, and cayenne pepper; cut with fork, mixing to a consistency of coarse crumbs. Add egg yolk and water to form stiff dough. Kneed slightly; roll to 1/4 inch thickness on floured board. Cut into narrow strips and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
